European Congress on Obesity 2019

The 26th European Congress on Obesity 2019, April 28th – May 1st in Glasgow, Scotland

The European Association for the Study of Obesity presents the 26th European Congress on Obesity, held in Glasgow, Scotland, from April 28th to May 1st. This conference outlines all the different scopes of obesity, such as the general science behind it, behavioral and environmental factors, as well as the different pillars of its management and interventions.

The Hydration for Health symposium will focus on connecting the dots between water and glucose regulation and how this related to health outcomes. New research explores the potential relationship between water intake and cardiometabolic disease.

The first talk, presented by Dr. Olle Melander, MD, PhD, investigates whether vasopressin, a hormone regulating the retention of water, can play as a factor in the development of diabetes and cardiometabolic disease.

The second, done by Dr. Jeanne Bottin, PhD, follows the first by introducing the preliminary results of an intervention where the effect of increased water intake on glucose regulation in habitual low drinkers is investigated.

The last talk, animated by Dr. Evan Johnson, PhD, reviews and discusses various literature on the influence of water intake on glucose metabolism. This lecture especially focuses on an investigation testing the effects of hypohydration and euhydration in the glucose tolerance of men with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

This session, providing a first glance at the possible links between water intake and cardiometabolic disease, will be held on April 29th from 1:15pm to 2:15pm.

The information flyer for this event is available below.

Don’t forget to fill out a short online questionnaire about hydration perceptions and practices while you are there!
